Internet Marketing Monitor
I’m always on the look out for local tech bloggers because this city continues to impress with the quantity of technical folks for the size of the city. Maybe it’s the nature of the beast, with the ability/desire to work independently or the lack of quality opportunities in large organizations, there is no shortage of internet talent it would appear.
The most recent site I’ve run across is an organization that focuses on three areas - Internet Marketing Strategies, SEO Tips, & Case Studies - and is run by Matt Edward, Derick Alan, Mandy LeAnne and Andy Allen. The site differentiates itself by matching the quantity and range of topics that I’ve come to expect from the A-list bloggers on the coasts.
The first thing that caught my eye is their use of a Wordpress template by a favorite designer of mine, Andreas Viklund. In fact, it’s the same template I’ve been experimenting with for a redesign of a regional genealogy organization that I provide volunteer support for. The disappointing aspect of it is that they do not point back to either Andreas Viklund’s site or to Ainslie Johnson, who modified Andreas’ theme for Wordpress, offering credit where it is due.
As I reviewed the site, it was also interesting to see the Meta Tags they had incorporated into their website. The use of Meta Tags was a key element of website design for a long time but it is an element that is not emphasized as much as it used to be. Andy Beard Jonathan, from Google Insider, writing on Weblog Tools Collection, recently touched on Header Tags and Meta tags for Wordpress blogs and pointed to a plug-in specifically designed to add tags on a post-by-post basis. I’ll be watching their site to see how well they rank in searches for these terms as well as being found as a Springfield SEO or SEM firm.
To get an idea of the market our friends at Internet Marketing Monitor are targeting, here is their list of Meta Tags embedded in their source:
The Internet, Headlines, Search Engines, Specialty Search, Google, Microsoft, Opinion, Marketing Tools, Advertising, Yahoo, addthis, popular bookmarking service, popular news reader, gmail tips, gmail filters, what to blog about, blogging in saturated markets, blog topics to avoid, grammar mistakes, affect vs effect, webmasterworlds cloak, important people on the web, usatoday redesign, pandia search detective, search engine search engine, top search, top 25 search blogs, search engine resources, search engine about search, web 2.0 search engine, social media search, microsoft criticizes google, google book scanning, google and copyright, does google steal content, google business practice, google search, google basics, google foundation, google loosing focus, how to be great at something, corporate blogging, microsoft adcenter refunds, social networking buttons, mynetscape, most overlooked in search marketing, google pack, yahoo mixd closes, how many posts to a blog in a day, iac video, ask.com videos, google dmarc, dmarc founders, problems at google, google revenue streams, when companies get desperate for revenue, google affects you, windows vista, apple iphone, apple marketing, microsoft marketing, target audience, age of audience, demographic marketing, yahoo hotjobs, yahoo advertising on craigslist, yahoo classified, uclue, q&a, ask questions, google answers, find answers, post questions, google desktop, yahoo vs google, yahoo takes on google, jim lanzone criticizes yahoo, criticism of paid inclusion, google response to copyright, google stance on copyright, february search share, search engine usage for february, youtube banned
Looking over this list, I’ll have to dig into some of the other Meta Tag plugins, this list mimics the recent story list which means they are utilizing both the value of keywords in title, or header tags, as well as the meta list. What’s missing is geographic indicators meaning they are less interested in local business and rather in working with organizations actively searching in this very active market otherwise known as search engine marketing. Good luck lady & gents and keep up the fine blogging example you offer.
