Italian Beef and fries. A former staple of mine in Chicago, a place that features a bar on every corner and a hot dog/italian beef joint across the street. I was happy to discover that there are two locations in Springfield that offer good examples.
Marco’s Pizzeria is my confirmed favorite now that they have moved to 400 South Avenue, at the intersection of Walnut and South. While Mark has always prided himself on authentic Chicago ingredients, from the bread to the Giardiniera (hot peppers) that combine with the spicy beef to offer a high protein solution to your lunch and dinner pangs.
The photo is from my lunch Saturday and the key to making the new location a regular stop for me. They now have fries
The portion could be increased for the $1.29 price and Mark noted he is exploring the best alternatives as he experiments in his new space. My meal, with Italian Beef, dipped with hot peppers, fries and a Budweiser came in at $9.10.
Don’t forget the pizza. Mark makes a great thin crust pizza in Chicago style that is tasty and fresh. Maybe we can get him to start selling it by the slice, especially for the hungry late night hordes who crowd the streets of downtown Springfield MO on weekends?
